Email Essentials: A Sensible Approach @Work

If your employees are suffering from email overload and in-box fatigue, they need this workshop.  Like many other managers, you might be concerned about the quality and quantity of email your employees are sending and receiving.  Email has rapidly changed the way businesses communicate today and not always for the better.

Technical Writing:  5 Essential Survival Skills

Technical writing! It sounds intimidating, but it doesn't have to be. When the day arrives that you are asked to express in writing what you do, what you  did, or what you want - you'll be ready.  This type of writing is called technical writing.  And although it is not  writing you perform daily, it is the type of writing that can make or break a career.

Effective technical writing hinges on demonstrating expertise in the  5 essential writing elements listed below.  Effective technical writers know how to: 

 

  • involve the reader
  • follow a consistent format
  • present ideas in an orderly and logical manner
  • provide visual appeal
  • eliminate unnecessary words
Objectives
Participants will learn to:
  • involve the reader when they write in active voice
  • remain consistent when they use parallel construction
  • organize for the reader when they arrange for reader priority
  • incorporate visual appeal when they  build in design
  • reduce reading time when they use key editing skills  

Format 
This course is available in classroom format of 4 or 7 hours, depending on client preference.
    Note:  The course manual covers two major technical writing areas.
  •    Part I - writing at the document (macro) level.
  •    Part II  - conciseness at the sentence (micro) level and  design techniques
Target Audience
This workshop is for anyone wanting to improve technical writing skills.  Participants will enjoy editing their own documents in class.
